This addition to the front of a 1960s modern home included
several renovations to the living room and hallon the first floor.
The scope of the project grew from a simple covered entry and new
closet to the inclusion of a sunroom to take advantage of the southern
exposure of the site. A roof deck evolved from the need to make
the mass of the addition to scale with the rest of the house. Over
time, it became a major design element that has become one of the
most important spaces in the house for the owners.
The design elements and materials for the new and renovated work
were selected to provide continuity with the existing house. Picking
up on the houses modern language, these elements include a
flat roof with deep overhangs, large areas of glass and a metal
roof railing. Inside, natural materials are emphasized, including
a slate floor, and a cedar ceiling and trims.
