This home for a family of five overlooks the Potomac River in the
Palisades section of Washington. The design pulls together a modest
bungalow with two additions to the front (1993) and the side and
rear (under construction, 2003, shown in rendering below).
The lack of rear yard required the earlier addition to go forward
and up, creating a deep covered porch with views to the river. A
glazed Sunroom adjacent to the porch acts as a small study. Above,
a Master Bedroom suite takes advantage of the gable roof to create
a raised ceiling, fronted by a bay that overlooks the river to the
south.
With the growth of the family, additional space is being added in
2003, creating a combined Kitchen/Breakfast/Family Room space and
adding two new bedrooms. This wing stretches out to the west to
take advantage of the river views.
